Framed

I was flipping through some shots from last summer in anticipation of the return of warmer weather here.  I found a few shots that were nice, but not spectacular.  Specifically, I wasn’t really excited about the composition on some of these shots, and I thought I’d try some post-processing to change up the look of the photos a bit.

Here’s an example of one that I cropped, then added a slightly darker border to try to highlight the subject a bit.  The process was pretty simple — I just duplicated the background layer, then cut the center out of the new layer (with feathering) and darkened the new layer a bit.  You could use this sort of technique to render any number of frame types.  Give it a try and see if you can give some old photos a new look.

There are more photos from this series in my gallery.
