Dogwood

I’ve completed a pass through the photos from my Blackhand Gorge hike this weekend – they’re in the gallery if you want to take a look.  This is a dogwood, which along with Eastern Redbud, is the main flowering tree you can see growing natively in central Ohio.  I think several of the shots from this weekend turned out reasonably well, so I’ll feature a couple more here later.

In this shot, I used a narrow DOF to isolate the foreground flowers and blur the background.  The diagonal position of the flowers helped the composition, too.  The simplicity of this shot works well from a full-size print all the way down to a thumbnail.
