The 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 was a real treat for me. This wasn’t my first trip to the speedway, but it was my first trip for the event that defines this great venue. Immediately following the early-morning photo meeting, the pomp and circumstance of the day was absolutely non-stop.
By mid-morning, the grid opened for the crowds, and the people-watching began in earnest, right up to the driver introductions.
The race itself really went pretty quickly following the hours-long build-up beforehand. The big incident of the race occurred heading into turn 1 — alas, I was shooting down in turn four at the time, so I had to make do with these more conventional shots. Still, a great experience — one I hope to repeat again soon.
